TÜV SÜD

TÜV SÜD aimed to achieve energy self-sufficiency and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action). To accomplish this, they leveraged the expansive roof space of their main testing laboratories, which typically exhibits high energy consumption due to the intensity and duration of their testing operations.

what we did…

EES Group installed a comprehensive solar power system with a capacity of 414.80 kW, comprised of 975 panels. This strategic installation will lead to a significant annual reduction of 73.28 tons of carbon emissions, an environmental benefit equating to the planting of approximately 3,366 trees.

To optimise the installation of photovoltaic panels, existing skylights were replaced with solid insulation and sheeting. This change not only maximised the available roof space for solar panel placement but also significantly enhanced the building’s energy efficiency. Additionally, EES Group installed new full edge protection to facilitate future operations and maintenance (O&M) activities.

As a result of these efforts, TÜV SÜD was able to generate a substantial portion of their energy needs on-site, thereby reducing their dependency on the grid and significantly lowering their energy costs. This initiative exemplified a commitment to innovative infrastructure, responsible resource management, and proactive climate action, aligning seamlessly with TÜV SÜD’s overarching sustainability goals.

As part of the technical installation, an integrated state-of-the-art solar monitoring platform provides real-time data on energy generation and efficiency of the solar panels. TUV SUD uses this data to educate both colleagues and visitors about the benefits and operational aspects of the solar system. By showcasing the system’s performance in real-time, it highlights the tangible benefits of renewable energy solutions in a corporate setting.

This project stands as a testament to TÜV SÜD’s dedication to environmental stewardship and innovation. By investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency measures, the company not only meets its sustainability targets but also sets a benchmark for other organisations looking to reduce their environmental impact. The initiative is a powerful example of how corporate responsibility and sustainable practices can go hand-in-hand, leading to both economic and environmental benefits.

Testimonial

EES were selected by TUV SUD to oversee two significant Solar PV installations – they were head and shoulders above the competition because they listened, and provided a solution that both met our sustainability targets as a business, whilst tailoring the solution to meet our needs.

They did not persist in trying to sell energy solutions or tie us into pointless tick-boxing, but assigned an account manager who proved themselves to be genuinely interested, and abundantly capable, in delivering a real-life sustainability solution which is now saving our business circa £15k a month in energy bills.

I would thoroughly recommend engaging with EES as a refreshing and technically competent alternative to the typical jargonistic and mass approach to green projects often found in the Real Estate industry, and because of their assistance, we are reaping real benefits as a result. – Dom Hurrell, UK Facilities Manager
