what we did…
Leisure centres across the UK are grappling with rising operational costs due to increasing electricity prices. With energy-intensive facilities such as swimming pools, the financial strain can be particularly challenging. Evington Leisure Centre recognised the need for a sustainable and cost-effective solution to reduce its high energy bills and support its decarbonisation goals.
To address this, Energy Efficient Solutions Group (EESG) delivered a comprehensive turnkey Solar PV installation, operating as both the designer and principal contractor. The project was tailored to the client’s detailed scope of works, ensuring a seamless and efficient implementation.
Given the long operating hours of the leisure centre, the installation was strategically scheduled to take place outside of usual trading hours, minimising disruptions to daily operations. Specialist Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and a Construction Phase Plan (CPP) were developed and approved by the client, ensuring safety and compliance throughout the process.
The solar array consisted of 100 high-performance monocrystalline solar PV modules, resulting in a total system size of 40.00 kWp. This installation is expected to generate an annual energy yield of 33,300 kWh, leading to first-year electricity cost savings of £8,391. Furthermore, the system will contribute to significant environmental benefits, reducing carbon emissions by 7.59 tonnes per year—the equivalent of planting 342 trees annually.
By investing in solar energy, Evington Leisure Centre has taken a proactive step towards sustainability, securing long-term energy savings while supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
