Tonbridge Swimming Pool

Tonbridge & Malling Council is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030 while also seeking to reduce energy expenditures. Due to high power consumption, attributable to extended operating hours and the operation of two pools from April to September. Tonbridge council had a compelling business case to transition to renewable energy, driven by economic, environmental, and social benefits.

what we did…

The project was tendered and awarded by Laser Energy, representing TM Active and the Tonbridge & Malling Council.

EES Group was selected for the project in March and faced a tight deadline to complete by early April, aligning with the opening of the outdoor pool. This required careful coordination to fast-track the design and delivery process within the limited timeframe.

In collaboration with the Laser Project Team, including Project Manager and Carbon Consultant, the EES Group team successfully managed technical design changes and supply chain logistics to ensure the project was delivered on time and within budget. Adjustments were made to the design to accommodate roof conditions, necessitating a change in system capacity and the strategic placement of inverter infrastructure to mitigate flood risks and comply with insurance requirements.

The final system, capable of delivering over 63 kWp, is expected to save nearly 13 tonnes of carbon annually. The project presented challenges, such as the roof’s complex pitches and venting for internal plant equipment, but careful attention to detail during the construction design phase helped overcome these obstacles. The infrastructure is also designed to allow for future expansion.
